Title: The Nutcracker
Medium: oil on MDF panel
Dimensions: 40.6 x 40.6 cm (16.2" H x 16.2" W)
Created as a part of the series "Reminisce", the painting tells the story of the nutcracker which has remained with the artists' family for over 250 years. This beautiful tool graced the hands of her forefathers and occupied a small space in the paan-daan (betel leaf box). It sat proudly on a stool in a dedicated corner of the room, covered with a fancy cloth. The box had numerous little brass katories (bowls) brimming with betel leaves, nuts, and a tiny nutcracker. And while they cut these nuts, came words of love, care, and slight rebukes that now lay buried beneath thick dust of time, but are nonetheless, alive.
