About the Artist
Divyanshi (b.1993 | Uttar Pradesh, India ) is an Oil Painter and Interior Designer residing and working in Toronto, Ontario. Her paintings are born out of the collaboration between her and her rich Indian heritage. It's a visual narrative of the exchange that goes on between the two in the studio as she discovers collectibles from her inheritance. A concoction of simple objects that arise out of this connection offers a great variety of textures and materials that are elevated to a compelling narrative under a dramatic interplay of light and shadows.
At the center of it all, lies a unique and beautiful human experience that arises from what we are. It is a part of our souls and a bridge between the past and future. Through her artwork, the artist thus wishes to transport her audience back in time, opening a floodgate of memories of the forgotten past and yet create a coveted collectible for years to come. She hopes to encourage her audience to begin a journey inward, rekindling their relationship with their own heritage, one that is often ignored and lies beneath the thick dust of modern times but is nonetheless alive.

Artist Statement
"Painting for me is a visual narrative of the exchange that goes on between me and my rich Indian heritage. It's an exploration into myriad tales revealed by the antique brassware, carved wooden designs, vividly colourful fabrics, intricate patterns and their process of creation that are elevated to a compelling narrative under a dramatic and contrasting use of light. Through my artwork, I wish to transport my audience back in time, opening a floodgate of memories through which one can explore and admire the rich heritage of Indian culture. "
