Although in Western society, there are now several academic studies carried by anthropologists about international adoption from China after the legal approval in 1991, the lack of access related to the past remains a fairly uncommon topic voiced by Chinese adoptees themselves in contemporary art. By accumulating reconstructed landscapes of the past, (Re)wound Timeline series opens a conversation about the necessity of returning to a frozen moment in time when it no longer holds the same meaning nor the same name in the present. It examines the cultural barrier where the host culture and native culture often conflict and where they both fail to account for the confusion, frustration and shame related to this furtive cultural uprooting that is transnational adoption.

The original of (Re)wound Timeline I will be presented during the Chinatown Biennial 2021.
